I didn’t start in IT. I started chairside.

In my early 20s, life was four-handed dentistry. I spent two years chairside with a general dentist in the Air Force, managing infection control, instruments, supply stock, patient flow, charts, and scheduling, all while staying ready to deploy.

In 2005 I decided a path change was in order, partly to make room for incoming airmen, and became a hygiene technician. Suddenly I was running my own schedule and turning over eight exams and cleanings a day. That grew into advanced training for the Air Force’s periodontal department, where I scaled pockets up to 8 mm for patients fighting periodontal disease, and eventually into training junior technicians. Along the way, the Air Force moved me from San Antonio to an hour south of London.

When my active duty career ended in 2012, I went back to school for Information Systems at the University of Tampa. The small classes and one-on-one teaching were invaluable, and the accountability of keeping up with my studies took me right back to my high school days.

After graduating, I interned at a local IT consulting firm and stayed on. I trained under seasoned system and network admins, sales and business development reps, solutions architects, and accountants: every role it takes to keep a consulting firm running. I worked the help desk and met almost every kind of user you can imagine, from the brilliant to the ones convinced technology is out to get them. I’ve been the one called in when critical systems had to be fixed right now or a company would lose revenue, and I’ve worked directly with business owners, office managers, and everyone in between.

Here’s what that taught me: we’re all people at different stages of life, juggling different responsibilities, bosses, and stressors, just trying to make it through the day and keep the business that supports our families running. My job is to explain things in plain language, so you have what you need to make the best decision for your situation.

As a solutions architect, I learned the hard way that a polished presentation is wasted if it doesn’t fit what the client actually needs, or their budget. Sales fell into my lap, and so did a front-row seat to how I’d want to run a business. Earning my MBA opened my eyes to how well-run businesses operate, and I came out excited to put it to work. I also learned that nobody cares about something as much as the person in direct control of it, and that sometimes you outgrow your role. This past year, I knew I had.

I started A+ Network Solutions in 2021, honestly not knowing exactly what I was doing. Now I’m jumping in with both feet. Walking away from a steady paycheck was frightening at first, but I’m trusting God to keep me focused and on the path He has for me. He’s told me to keep going, and that’s exactly what I’m doing.

Today A+ is a founder-led team. Our technicians, 24/7 monitoring, and specialist partners work together so your practice is covered every day, and I stay personally involved in every client we take on. I still lead a dental team in the Air Force Reserve here in Tampa Bay, so I’ve stood where your team stands. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to.
